Mildred Elaine Darby Crumby, age 89, passed peacefully from this world to Heaven on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Malvern Nursing Home.
Mildred was born to Francis Chafer and Ava Alice Brooks Darby in Drumwright, OK on March 10, 1925. She was a retired medical secretary for the Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs, AR. In addition, she was secretary for the Hot Spring County Health Department in Malvern. She began her career in Richmond, CA as a secretary in the manufacturing industry in which warships were built during WWII.
She was a faithful and active charter member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Magnet Cove, AR. She was a strong Christian and loved her Lord and Saviour.
Mildred married Melvin Elwood “Tug” Crumby on June 16, 1944 in Richmond, CA. Together they raised two children: Rebecca “Becky” (Joel) Rucker of Benton, AR and Melvin ” Sonny” (Kathy) Crumby, Jr. of Magnet Cove, AR. Mildred adored her children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing on Lakes Ouachita and DeGray, camping, traveling, music, reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, bird watching, and family genealogy research.
Loved ones left to cherish her sweet memory are her children; her grandchildren: Amy (Brad) Baker and Tim (Tracy) Rucker, both of Benton, AR, Lynn (Jan) Rucker of Cherryvale, KS, Kacee (Patrick) Sims of Perryville, AR, and Trey (Ashley) Crumby of Oxford, MS; her great-grandchildren: Emma Kate Baker, Ty Baker, Colby Rucker, Sydnee Sims, Chloee Sims, and Amelia Crumby; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; her two brothers: Edwin Darby of NM and Monty Darby of OK; two sisters: Evelyne Lynch of KS and Virginia Reichert of Napa, CA.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 27 at First Southern Baptist Church in Magnet Cove, AR. Visitation will be at Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 26 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be Tim Rucker, Colby Rucker, Brad Baker, Trey Crumby, and Patrick Sims.
A special thank you to Jean Crumby, Rose Ballard, and Sissy Bennett for their special loving care of our mother and all who visited, called, and sent cards. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and all who were involved in mother’s care at Baptist Hospital in Malvern in addition to all doctors, nurses, and Hospice Care at the Malvern Nursing Home in Malvern, AR.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to First Southern Baptist in Magnet Cove or the American Cancer Society.
